PROJECT HISTORY AND STATUS

MEADOWVALE ISLAMIC CENTRE

Meadowvale Islamic Centre Inc. a Not-for-Profit Ontario Corporation was registered on April 15th, 2004 by three founding members to establish a Masjid for Meadowvale Muslim Community. The property was purchased in November 2002 and the land is approximately 1 acre. It is located at 6508 Winston Churchill Blvd, Mississauga, Ontario L5N 3W4

PROPERTY OWNERSHIP

The ownership of Masjid Property was transferred to Meadowvale Islamic Centre on April 21st, 2008.

CHARITABLE STATUS:

Meadowvale Islamic Centre Inc. is a Registered Charity under Income Tax Act and its Charity’s Business Number is 861881670 RR0001. It was re-registered on October 15th, 2009 retroactively to May 26th, 2007. All donations to MIC are Tax Deductible.

BUILDING DESIGN:

An architect was engaged to design and build 15,000 square feet Masjid. Unfortunately, the City of Mississauga Zoning By-Laws changed in 2007 requiring additional parking. The current land is not sufficient to provide adequate parking as required by City Zoning By-Laws. In order to build the Masjid as designed, MIC has no choice but to buy property next door which requires additional funding to proceed further.

PROJECT STATUS:

MIC management has applied to City of Mississauga for a permit to reclassify the use of the property from single dwelling to Place of Worship. Two recent meetings on November 2nd, 2009 and November 16th, 2009 with the City Building Department revealed that an extensive work will be required to re-submit the drawings to City for approval. Strategic & Planning Committee (Project) is dealing with the Architect and City of Mississauga to prepare budget for this purpose.

It is our first priority to terminate the loan against our Masjid as soon as possible. It is also our intent to purchase the property next door to built 15,000 sq,ft, Meadowvale Islamic Centre. Purchasing of additional land will require funds and Project Committee has launched Interact and E-Commerce solution to Donate on-Line at www.mici.org
